    Scholarship Awards Program and Tuition Assistance

    We offer our team members a Tuition Assistance Program and a Scholarship Program to assist them and their families with their academic aspirations.

    Tuition Assistance Program

    Our Tuition Assistance Program provides eligible part-time team members with 50% tuition fee reimbursement upon successful completion and eligible full-time team members with 75% tuition fee reimbursement upon successful completion of their respective training course or program.

    Calgary Co-op Team Member Scholarship Program

    Each year, we award scholarships to our team members and their family who meet the criteria for receiving a scholarship.

    In the last year, we awarded nearly $100,000 in scholarships!

    Training Programs

    We take the time to ensure our team members have the skills they need to succeed at their job.

    One-to-One Management Training Program

    Our One-to-One Management Training Program provides individuals who encompass leadership competencies, technical skills, customer service and a desire for career development, the opportunity to train for and become a manager for fresh departments such as Bakery, Deli, Meat, Produce or a commodity manager in the Gas Bar, Grocery, Pharmacy or Travel. Training may also be for a Assistant Centre Manager or Front End Manager. Calgary Co-op Centre Managers are responsible for the operation of the full centre.

    As a manager trainee, you partner with one of our experienced managers, who will act as a mentor and demonstrate the leadership skills necessary to manage situations that all of our managers oversee on a daily basis.

    Our Calgary Co-op Management Training Program equips new managers with a complete training manual, tailoured seminars and monthly reviews with the trainer.

    Upon completion of the program, management trainees are placed into management positions at one our locations.

    As a part of our commitment to the development of our team members, we offer our team members an opportunity to take part in specialized on-line training seminars and in-house training programs as an avenue towards a future career.

    When our team members perform beyond expectations, accomplish difficult objectives and surpass goals, we recognize those achievements through Smile 2.0 recognitions.

    Our program has two components:

    • Performance Recognition:

      This program allows our Team Member’s to be recognized by receiving “Smile Points” for demonstrating one of our core values. These points can be redeemed for amazing gifts online.

    • Service Awards:

      We celebrate team member career milestones with “Smile Points” at one year, three years, five years and every five years of service thereafter.

      Eligible Retiring Team Members receive “Smile Points” which they can redeem for a gift online and are invited to celebrate at a reception which is held twice a year.

    We understand the importance of teamwork and building relationships at work. One of the ways we do this is by having social committees that organize various events throughout the year.

    Since most of our locations are located geographically in and around Calgary, each centre and head office has their own Social Committee, which is responsible for organizing events for team members, and recognizing special occasions.

    We believe the overall well-being of every employee is important. Our Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) is available to every Calgary Co-op employee and their immediate family members. Our EFAP is an immediate, confidential and voluntary support service that can help you understand or resolve challenging situations or circumstances through a variety of resources.

    Confidential support is available by telephone, in person, online and through a variety of issue-based health and wellness resources.
